Vintage Stratton Pheasant Compact

Vintage Stratton Pheasant powder compact.

This is a gorgeous Stratton gold tone powder compact with the signiture scalloped edges of the 'Princess' design.
The lid shows an eastern style picture of a pheasant amongst tree peonies on a rich red enamelled background. The reverse of compact has been engine turned with a basket weave pattern with the Stratton England logo in the centre.
The design was was manufactured in 1954 and continued for around ten years. On opening the powder compact there is a round mirror in excellect condition on the inside of the lid. The inner powder guard is engraved with a simple pattern of vertical lines with small arrow nicks pointing to the left, with the 'Stratton England' logo in the centre. When the lid is gently pushed back, the catch is automatically released to avoid ladies breaking their nails and is the patented design of the 'Compact in Hand' compacts, to reveal the powder well beneath. The powder well contains the original mesh sifter and powder puff, which is now showing signs of age and as such a new puff would be required for use, but for a collector, the original is essential. Overall the powder compact is in very good vintage condition, looks unused and comes with its original box, but does show minor wear from handling over the years. There is a very small blemish in the gold tone on the inside rim of the base near the left hand side of the hinge that can be seen in the photograph with the inner guard down, but does not detract from overall quality of the compact. Overall this is a colourful and lovely Stratton powder compact for use or a collector.
