This fabulous vintage Stratton Asian design compact is in immaculate condition with it's original black pouch.

The rectangular shape with it's purse-snap closure was described in a 1948 trade paper as 'Pontoon'.

The face of the lid of the compact has a Indian / Asian garden design with musicians, peacocks, birds and a deer. The base has a textured pattern of a running series of three horizontal lines across the whole area.

The inside of the compact is as new with the base housing the loose powder section, which is held down by the inner lid. The inner lid catch has a PAT. number of 530653 and PRO PAT on the edge. The mirror is also in excellent condition and 'STRATTON Made in England' with the pattern number 552622 near the hinge. The original cream powder puff is also enclosed with a textured top.

The whole compact is coated with a bronze tinted gilding which appears to have been used immediatley after World War 2. All of the design factors and PAT. number etc. date the compact to the 1940s and no later.

Overall the compact is like new, and the internal and external hinges are also in excellent working order. There is no original box however.
