Vintage Kigu Cherie Petit Point Compact
Vintage Kigu Cherie Petit Point powder compact.
This is a pretty heart shaped powder compact from Kigu of London.
On the lid there is a beautiful petit point insert of colourful flowers in a gilt leaf engraved frame. The reverse of the powder compact has a very nice engine turned pattern resembling woven fabric, enhacing the overall effect of the compact.
On opening the powder compact you will find a clear round mirror to the inside of the lid. Above the mirror the word 'CHERIE' in script is engraved with PATENTED underneath. Below the mirror, near the hinge, the words 'MADE IN ENGLAND' are also engraved.
In the base, the inner powder guard has an engine turned pattern engraved into it with the KIGU emblem at the centre. The inner powder guard is surrounded by a sunburst pattern radiating towards the circumference of the heart shape. There is a small catch to the right of the guard that slids down to open it and beneath the powder guard sits the powder well along with the original mesh sifter and powder puff.
Overall this vintage powder compact shines like new and the internal and external hinges are all in excellent working order. A lovely collectable item or gift for a lady who likes something special and more traditional, despite the lack of the original box.
