The Pink Monkey Company Ltd

This is a beautiful vintage 1950s-60s copper and enamel brooch and earrings set by Matisse Renoir of California in the Bamboo design.

The oriental style of the artful trees is evident in the set, with the brooch and earrings being made from copper with enamelled leaf insets in varying shades of blue through to white. The depth of colour and the enamelling are a good example of the naturalistic style which Matisse jewellery was famous for.

The back of the brooch is signed with the Matisse Renoir block signiture behind the back pin and both of the earrings are signed on the metal clasps with the geometric script. The choice of typestyle was a matter of convinience and not a dating issue. However, the presence of both names indicates that it was made for both the Matisse and Renoir divisions of the company and can be dated from 1954 - early 60s, as all pieces have the © mark after 1954.

The brooch clasp has a security roll over to ensure safety whilst wearing such a lovely piece and the earrings are clip-on with a good spring action.
